Final Blog

I feel I've been most inspired by Frank Stella. More specifically the geometric art he's created, but also his use of  nontraditional materials in his sculptures. I try to use more shapes in my art and substances you wouldn't normally use when making my . I've also learned how to use more structure and stability behind my art. I find frank Stella is the best example of an artist that has inspired me because of the ways I’ve grown in my artwork.
This first piece is an example of how I learned to use more shapes in my art. This art is more centered around the shape of the art.

This piece is an example of how I use more nontraditional materials in my sculptures. The aluminum foil I used to create a trashcan isn't something you'd see very often in art.

nontraditional art

My nontraditional art i decided to do was a trash can. Most people think of sculptures and paintings when they think of art so i decided to make something that would make people actually think about the real meaning of art. i used aluminum foil as the medium because i felt that aluminum foil isn't a huge medium thats used in the art world.

NCMA

this was the art is liked from the moment I saw it. I had seen it from the end of the hall and it was instantly my favorite piece of art.

This is the art that i saw and i wasn't entirely into it until i had read about it and looked at it for a while and i realized it was pretty alright.
When i saw this art i thought it was lazy and uninspired and i read about it and kept looking at it but i just couldn't get into it.

never got to say

When we were told to make an art piece based on something we never got to say i knew exactly how i was going to go about it. i knew i was going to use my love for a famous youtuber who had helped me through a time where i couldn't find happiness in anything. His videos helped me to become a happier person and to realize that not everything in life is bad.

The Best Art Supply Store Doesn’t Sell Art Supplies

Art doesn't have to be created by the "A grade" art supplies that art catalogs and art store sell. Art doesn't even need to be made using supplies found from hardware stores either. Art could be made by using anything and everything. Trash bags, plastic wraps, even rocks can all be used to create art. All you need to make art is an idea and a way to make that idea a reality

Postmodern principles

I feel that the way art has changed in the many years it's been changing has caused a way to be deeper with meanings. The ways people have found to explain abstract ideals throughout art styles is immense. These changes in art allow people to be more connected with the art they create as opposed to formal principles in art. These new at styles have no bounds and can be used to express any amount of emotions or thoughts.

Is art without meaning decoration?

I feel like art may not have a meaning to the person looking at it. However if the creator feels the art has a meaning then the art has the meaning it needs to have. Even decoration can have meaning if the one decorating or creating the decoration believes it does.

Essential Question "And Then What"

The essential questions project was a project we did which we had a word and we turned that word into a question and turned that question into a piece of art that represented that word's question.
In my case however I couldn't come up with a word that would be good enough to represent in a piece of art. So I decided it would be better for me to work backwards and make the art first. After I had started the art I had made out the word "and" which became the question "and then what?"

Bird post

When i started my bird post I had intended it to merely be a standing bird of wire, but soon it became a bird of rocks upon a post that we later stuck into the ground. This project was done under the basis of  lines, however I feel that the project became much more.

Mix Media Project

For my mix media project I decided to make a reversed little red riding hood, where little red is actually to wolf. I used several types of collages to create this work. I used wrapping paper to make the trees and the hood. I also photo transfer to get the wolfs head. I used normal wrapping paper and flattened it with gesso to get the moon to look the way I wanted it to. When I was making the trees and the hood I crumpled the paper into balls and rolls to get a more realistic view on the environment

Colored Pencil Final Drawing

For the final drawing I decided to use colored pencil. I used this medium because I found it to be the easiest to control and to blend. For my drawing I made several dice that I decided to draw in blue and green. I had them start very close and slowly fall further and further back into the distance. The hardest part of this project, in my opinion, was getting the point of light right on the dice. It was difficult to evenly blend the shades of blue and green throughout the dice.

Clay Project

For the Clay Project I was assigned desserts. I decided to do ho-hos and cherry tarts. In my opinion the ho-hos came out the best; however, I'm not disappointed with how the tarts came out. the hardest part when making the ho-hos was getting the ends to look realistic and look like an actual ho-ho. The process of actually making the tarts wasn't difficult. The difficult part of them was figuring out how I was to go about making them, and the ideas I had to make them.

Chalk, Colored Pencil, and Oil Pastel projects.

These two projects were my colored pencil and chalk drawings.
First the colored pencil drawing located on top was a dum dum lollipop. This was probably the easiest of the three drawings and I'm also most pleased with how this one turned out. the most challenging part of this drawing was getting shading and wrinkles of the wrapping to look good. But after I accomplished that, the rest just came together. The second was the chalk drawing. For the chalk drawing I drew a mint in a wrapper. The hardest part of this project would probably be making sure the green and blue chalks didn't mix. Also the wrapper was difficult to make transparent while still visible.
The third project I made was the Pastels. For the Pastels I made a Jolly Rancher in the wrapper. This was, in my opinion, the hardest one of the three. The hardest part was making the colors blend well together. I was satisfied with how the glare of the wrapper turned out, but other than that I wasn't pleased with the outcome of the project.

Inspired Art

For my inspired art project i was assigned to research Frank Stella. Frank Stella was an artist who did most of his work in a minimalist, abstract style. During the making of this art I had to deal with making a lot of straight, small lines. I also had to keep a solid pattern of color while making the large grouping of lines. I also decided that having all of my lines be going the same way would be boring and bland, so at several points in the painting the lines change direction and at some points the create an almost staircase like design. Overall I feel as though this painting came out better than I had anticipated.

Perspective Drawing

For my perspective drawing I decided to do a top-down perspective of a concepted city. Above, you can see the finished image of my perspective city. While I was making this I used several reference photos of cities like New York, and Chicago but from the top-down point of view. During the duration of the drawing I became more acquainted to perspective viewing of cities, especially from the top down view. I also became more known to how to shade from different angles on a top down point of view on a city. Below is a rough draft image of what i was going to do with the picture.

Relief (unfinished)

Pokeball
Artists Collaborate
I had help figuring out what i wanted to do for this project, and also how to go about doing it.
I was helped when figuring out whether or not I wanted just the pokeball, or if i wanted more in the background of the piece.
Artists Take Risks
I wasn't entirely sure if I wanted to the Pokeball or not; however, after consideration I'd decided it was what I was sure i wanted to do.
Creating an extra connection from the Pokeball to the edges of the piece could have been unneeded in the piece and could've even worked against the piece. Although I feel as if it made the piece almost pop out more.

Unconventional Material

Pc Tron Disc
Artist Collaboration
I had a lot of help from others in this project.
For starters i had help actually coming up with the idea of turning this pc disc into a tron disc.
I had to use the tape from inside the disc to make the disc look more solid so i needed help getting the tape out of the disc itself.
I also had help trying to figure out how to make the fluorescent color for the disc lining.
Artists Take Risks
I had to take a risk with whether or not i wanted to take out the tape from inside, if i hadn't of liked the way it looked wrapped around the disc then it would've been a lot of wasted time.
Also when i put the neon paint on the disc and hadn't liked the way it was then i would've had to start again with getting the tape out.

After visiting artist

1) My expectations lined up exactly i thought they would.
2) I wasn't sure how to do the wire and wrapping it.
3) The body was somewhat proportional.

before visiting artist

1) Bryant Holsenbeck is an artist that does sculptures of animals and living things made from non living, abiotic, manufactured items.
2) I expect her to have a very artistic attitude.
3)i don't expect my project to go as planned
4) I plan to do an lion cub

Vessel Project

Questions
Did you learn new techniques or processes as part of the work for this project?
Yes. I learned how to make a mug first of all, plus i learned a lot about clay and clay making materials.
Did you gain skill with familiar materials?
I learned an easier way to score and slip and keeping the clay from drying out.
Questions
When did you step back and analyze you work during this project?
Before it was bisqued I made sure it was what i wanted from what i was making
Did you consider how ideas would work before you tried them?
Yes, i thought about making a bowl before realizing i can't have tea very successfully in a bowl.
Artists Collaborate
I had other students look at my work to make sure everything was level and proportional. Miss Sudkamp had helped me with learning how to clean glaze off parts of the piece so the colors wouldn't mix.
